Advice On Professional Sculpture Aftercare

Recommended Protective Treatment With Osmo Oil 420

I always use and recommend Osmo Oil 420 for timber sculptures due to its excellent anti-peeling, water and UV resistance, and anti-microbial properties. This oil provides a beautiful satin sheen without needing heavy application, and it tends to last longer than other treatments. Depending on your sculpture's exposure, reapplication is recommended every one to four years to maintain its protection and appearance.

Proper Application And Timing For Osmo Oil 420

When applying Osmo Oil 420, use only a thin coat and allow 24 to 48 hours before deciding if a second coat is necessary. This drying time can vary depending on temperature. For outdoor sculptures, always reapply the oil during dry summer months when warm nights help the oil cure properly, ensuring maximum durability.

Understanding And Managing Timber Cracking

Cracking is a natural process as timber expands and contracts with changing weather and moisture levels. All wood will crack to some degree, especially within the first year. To address this, every sculpture comes with a one-year warranty for crack repairs. The drying process causes the timber to shrink unevenly, but I carefully monitor this during creation, allowing the wood to stabilise before adding finer details.

Placement Tips To Prevent Rot And Damage

To protect your sculpture from moisture damage, avoid placing it directly on soil or grass, as water can seep into the wood and cause rot. Instead, position your sculpture on a rock, stone slab, or fence post, or use rubber pads to elevate it. Proper placement helps extend the life of your sculpture by reducing exposure to bacteria and fungi.
