Sculpture Creation Case Studies

How the Osprey Took Flight in Monmouth?

Cherry’s ash tree stump in Monmouth became the perfect canvas for a majestic 8-foot Osprey sculpture. Using the tree’s natural fork for the outstretched wings, I brought the bird to life with pyrography and carving. After drying and oiling, the sculpture became a local landmark, highlighting my passion for birds of prey and the beauty of natural wood.

Where Art Meets Nature: The Savannah Cat & Bee Sculpture

Commissioned by breeder and beekeeper Sam, this unique piece celebrates his twin passions. Carved from aged Ash and detailed with pyrography, the Savannah Cat gazes curiously at a delicate bee crafted from Oak, steel nails, resin, and filler. Installed securely with hidden steel rods and even fitted with a tracker, this lifelike sculpture has become a local favourite.

The Making of the Red Kite in Flight

After storm damage left a 26-foot oak tree trunk in Chris’s garden, I crafted a removable Red Kite sculpture perched mid-flight. Designed in four interlocking parts with hidden fixings, it showcases pyrography detail, hand-painted feathers, and durable Osmo Oil 420. Installed using a custom scaffold and harness system, this 'Extreme Carving' now soars above the garden—strong, elegant, and completely unique.

Crafting the Majestic Sea Lion Crest

James’s unique request for a sea lion—his family crest—led to an imaginative blend of lion and fish, holding a fleur de lis. Using oak and repurposed stump wood, I sculpted the powerful figure in sections, securing it with steel rods. With rippling water carved into the base, this roaring sea creature now stands proudly, guarding James’s drive and drawing admiration from all who pass.

Miniature Sculpture - Landing of the Dragonfly

Inspired by a bee I carved with the Savannah Cat, I created this dragonfly from steel and epoxy resin. It won the Visitor's Choice Award at the Royal Miniature Art Society Exhibition 2024. Metal and epoxy is such a great way to add a small detailed piece to a larger sculpture.
