Commissioned as part of a public art project celebrating the wildlife of Ham Common Nature Reserve in Poole, this life-sized White-tailed Sea Eagle was created for BCP Council.

The eagle itself was carved from oak, with particular attention given to its powerful proportions, layered plumage and characteristic profile. The talons were fabricated from steel, giving the bird a strong and durable connection to its base.

I also created the rock on which the eagle stands. Rather than using natural stone, I fabricated a steel framework and sculpted the rock from concrete, allowing the entire installation to be designed specifically around the eagle and its setting.

Colour and fine detailing were then added to bring the bird to life while retaining the natural character and grain of the oak.

The finished sculpture was installed at Ham Common, creating a permanent piece of wildlife art for visitors to discover along the reserve's paths.
