James asked me to carve a sea lion from his tree stump, but it wasn't the animal I first imagined. It was his family crest, a mythical creature that's half lion, half fish, holding a fleur-de-lis. I developed the design from the original drawing and built it in sections on site. The roaring lion was great fun to carve. And the stump was shaped into rippling water to bring everything together.
